Hosted by RTC, this event offers a considerable draw to patrons locally and throughout the region. Austen’s works prove to be
of great interest to the arts, education and literary communities and provides an apt platform for symposium on the subjects of
women’s role in the arts, the influence of classical literature today and the role of the performing arts in education.
“We love Jane Austen’s stories and audiences love seeing them,” said Woods. “We have found great success with our
original stage productions of Austen’s stories and wanted to create a one-of-a-kind festival honoring her at our theater in
Oklahoma City.”
Best-selling author, Linda Berdoll will be the keynote speaker on June 16th. Sponsored by Chesapeake Energy and the
Oklahoma Arts Council, Berdoll will speak on her journey from fan to author of the Pride and Prejudice sequels: Mr. Darcy
Takes A Wife and Darcy & Elizabeth, as well as her newest Austen-inspired novel The Ruling Passion.
RTC will also present a stage-reading of the company’s original stage adaptation of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice on June
15th. Many from the original cast of the company’s acclaimed 2009 premiere production will be back for this rare event.
"The Festival will be a totally different event experience for our patrons and attendees,” said Woods. “It will be an immersion
into Austen’s work with open, lively discussion, exhibition and exploration.”
